awaawapuhi trail Kauai, Hawaii

The Awa 'awa' puhi Trail is yet another trail of Koke'e which promises broad views and hike through the dense jungle and dry landscapes. Although this track is enough yet, we recommend the robust hiking boots. Awa puhi'awa ' is a slow start, but resumes the steam about halfway.
The only thing to do the first interesting part is a series of labeled plants. If you take the "Awa 'awa' puhi botanical trail Guide" to the Museum of Koke'e he leads you through the maze of native and introduced plants.

The trail begins about 4 120 feet and ends at the lookout, about 2,500 feet. Hiking you probably meet each foot especially if you are finding this walk in the trail of Nualolo / Nualolo Cliff Trail "loop". You can view the trail loop by the opening of Google Earth and view our map Nualolo and Awaawapuhi trail loop.

After the first mile, the forest began to dissipate only appearances once in a while as the arid land of Na Pali will come into view. You get your first glimpse of the Awa 'awa' puhi Valley approximately 1.75 miles. Be careful and do not go too close to the edge that some views are eroded.
Awaawapuhi Trail MapDrink in the view of the sea as approach the junction with Cliff Nualolo trail. You can run in a few fellow hikers on your way, as mountain goats clinging to steep slopes. Go right (to your right) until the end of the runway and a spectacular view from your perch of 2,500 feet. Time permitting, you should get a view breathtaking lusciously green of the 'awa' Awa puhi Valley and the Valley of Nualolo. It is perhaps the folding arrows of Na Pali which makes this trail so exceptional. Once you reach the end not venturing beyond the railing as the ground is not safe and some crazy-hearty explorers fell to their death.

For a tour of a nice day you can save trace at the junction of Nualolo and continue along Cliff Nualolo trail Nualolo trail that ends at the headquarters of the Koke'e State Park. However if you plan to this loop hike, we recommend you hiking low Nualolo and back up and Awa'awapuhi. You can read more on the "loop" at the entrance of our Nualolo trail.

Kokee and Waimea State Park
Don't forget to visit our page Koke'e State Park to walk for more information about all the amazing trails within the Park. On this page we have also published a map of the region (Koke'e and Waimea state parks) allows you to download and print at home. The Koke'e Lodge and the Museum will also have maps available, but we would certainly recommend that go you ahead and review the map and familiarize themselves with the region. Intersecting trails and 4 x 4 routes can be confusing at first, but once you select your route, it is not too bad. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any specific questions.
Distance from the runway: 6.2 miles (round trip). 11.3 km for the entire loop and viewpoints (including the ride of your vehicle to the starting point).
